Presentation - Proposal: The Town of Brewster Needs a Tree Bylaw 00:01:00

Proposal: The Town of Brewster Needs a Tree Bylaw Amy Henderson, Executive Director Brewster Conservation Trust Healthy mature trees provide a myriad of ecosystem services from which humans benefit: improving air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide; protecting and enhancing water quality; reducing storm runoff and the potential for soil erosion; providing shade and reducing noise pollution; providing habitat for birds, and other wildlife; increasing real property values; and enhancing visual and aesthetic qualities that attract visitors and businesses. Protection of trees means preserving and enhancing all these services and more. In order to promote a healthy and sustainable community for Brewsters’ citizens, the time is right to consider codifying tree protection in a bylaw.
